Hello all,
We are contemplating a trip to The Gambia end of September.
I read that it rains almost everyday during that month. How true is this?
Of all the web sites I have visited, most say that rainfall occurs during the night.
I'd hate to spend my time in The Gambia under the rain.
Can anyone help me on this?
We would travel along the coast.
thanks in advance! |

Well, my friend booked a trip to Senegal (so; same place, basically) in the same region.
Only afterwards we found out it is indeed rainy season. So we went looking for the same info as you did. Here's what we found:
- It rains almost every day, but not the whole day. But still, if it does not rain, there will be clouds. On average, we could expect only 2-3hrs of sun per day.
- Most parks are closed as they are unreacheable (flooded, undriveable roads, ...)
- That also is the case for Niokolo Koba, the only national park in the inner part of the country, and we definitely wanted to visit that.
- The only trip left (to make from your hotel) is a trip to some local towns nearby (fishermans towns, or towns on the banks of Gambia river. However, you will spend even more time on the road as normal, again due to road conditions in rainy season. So the trip is often "cut short".
In other words; there's a reason why prices are that low during that season; you basically are stuck in your hotel, and not many trips to make.
i hope this help. |
