Micronesia,Australasia and Oceania.
Micronesia has always had a bewitching effect on travelers. The first known foreigner to visit Pohnpei (one of the four main islands) was a shipwrecked Irish sailor who danced a jig after washing ashore. In later years, sailors from British and U.S. whaling ships were so smitten by the island they abandoned ship in droves. These days, if travelers dance a jig upon arriving in the Federated States of Micronesia, it's probably because they've discovered one of the great diving locales of the world: a remote retreat uncluttered by hordes of tourists or by lots of big resort hotels. This scattering of tiny islands in the middle of the Pacific offers an opportunity to experience authentic island life and fascinating ocean depths. Micronesia might not have all the standard modern conveniences, but that's precisely why many people go there.
